Brix at Midtown is a massive new $50-million apartment project strategically situated near Grand Rapids Medical Mile and Midtown Village. The project’s goal was to meet the demand for housing of young professionals and students for the nearby hospitals and medical schools. The project features two sprawling apartment buildings – one 4-story and one 5-story – with 325,000 square-feet of living space in 290 apartment units, and a 5-story, 330-space parking garage. The complex features a 2-story fitness center and ample outdoor amenity spaces including a large courtyard with a pool and fire pits.

The apartment buildings are wood stick-framed, with open-web floor and roof trusses and wood stud bearing walls and plywood-sheathed shearwalls. The 5-story apartment building required non-combustible construction and utilized fire-retardant-treated lumber. The structure for the parking garage is precast concrete.
