601 Bond is a 16-story luxury-apartment building located just north of downtown, within walking distance of Grand Rapids’ Medical Mile. At a cost of $42-million it includes over 300,000 square-feet of space, and features over 200 apartments, five levels of parking – at the base of the building, retail/restaurant space at the ground level, and a rooftop terrace. This all-concrete structure is supported on a “mat”-style foundation that encompasses the entire building footprint and varies in thickness from 3-feet to 5-feet; consists of 12”-thick post-tensioned flat (plate) floor slabs; is supported by reinforced concrete columns up to 42” in width; and is braced laterally by shearwalls that are 16” in thickness at their base.
