Greenleaf Trust is a new, LEED-certified five-story, mixed-use building in downtown Birmingham. The project consisted of revitalizing a high-profile, long-abandoned but confined site- only 14,000 SF in size, situated with streets on three sides, and a building inches away on the fourth. The building houses an upscale restaurant, office space, luxury apartments, and a basement parking garage.
The structure is steel-framed, at a total steel weight of 550 tons, with composite concrete slabs. Column transfers were utilized at the main floor due to the basement parking layout, requiring four 40”-deep steel girders, weighing a total of 60,000 pounds. The site dictated the use of a tower crane, for which its foundation was built integrally with the building foundations. Project documentation was completed using BIM.
